My In-Perfect but Perfect Body

20160218_090408This is me. I am a Wife, Mother, Worker, AND a Personal Trainer.

Does this mean that i have to sport a 6 pack, or have 15% body fat at all times? I say no!!

This post is for all the women and men out there, young or old, that open their Facebook or Instagram account, only to be flooded by images of “the perfect body”, and believe that this is the body that they have to achieve, or should be able to maintain all time.

I mean yes it is possible to get into that condition, and have your 6 pack, and muscles bulging, but should you spend your whole waking time trying to attain the look of somone elses body? Have you stopped to consider that most of the images of people you see online, are off professional athletes that have supplement sponsorships, spend 3 hours in the gym a day, may have most of their meals made for them, have nutritional coaches, strength coaches etc etc……………………….. And when they know they have a photo shoot coming up, they put themselves on a strict diet in preperation……………………………….

These people don’t always look like that, they put weight on when they’re not competing or doing photo shoots, but you wont see any of those photos!

Why is it when we want to see change in our bodies, we start to look at everyone elses body, and say we want to look like that?  As if we are all genetically made the same and so it could be possible.

Wrong! Our bodies are all so different, no two people could look the same, and why would we want to? The world would be a very boring plasce if we all walked around looking the same.

In my industry its extra hard. There’s a real assumption that because I’m a Personal Trainer I should look a certain way. I’m writing this now to say , “to hell with that”. I’ve been there and done that when i was a competitive athlete involved in Boxing at a National and International level. I competed between 54-57kg. My life consisted of weighing myself every day, training 3 plus hours a day-6 days a week, eating the most boring food and taking my own food everywhere i went, including 2 weddings!! Everone felt like they had a say about my weight, coaches, members at the gym, or other athletes. Whether i had gained too much, and what was i going to do to get it off? It consumed every waking moment of my life. Did i look good? Hell yeh!! But do I want to live like that? Hell no!

So now my body may not be perfect anymore. I’ve had two children (who also take up a lot of my time), I have lots of stretch marks, I work (definatley don’t have time to train 3 hours a day), i have curves and yes I even have cellulite! But does that make me in-perfect, or any less of a trainer? NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! It just makes me human and normal.

I’m still fit and I’m healthy. I eat well 75% of the time, but love cooking and enjoying great food too. I take my kids for ice creams in the weekend and i live life without letting my weight or image consume me.

SO i plead to you all, to stop looking at other peoples bodies, thinking you need to look like that and feeling like a failure when you don’t. Make the changes you need too, to create a healthier version of yourself, and get excited by the changes you can see and feel. But don’t bench mark your success on what others look like, cause its not about them, its about you. If you know that you are doing the best you can with your resources then thats your achievment and something to be proud of, no matter how little or big.

And learn how to love your body, because there is no one size fits all, we are all in-perfect, but totally PERFECT in our unique way. And we need to all learn how to rock OUR bodies
