How much sugar are you feeding your children at breakfast?

BREAKFAST FOR OUR KIDS ?

Have you put much thought lately into what you’re giving your kids for breakfast?
Or do you just do the normal ‘cereal and milk’ or maybe toast?
Have you actually read the nutritional panel on a box of cereal?
If you did, I think you would be genuinely shocked!!!
The amount of sugar alone is staggering, let alone the processing that it goes through to become this special shape or flavour, the amount of preservatives or artifical flavours, and the list of ingredients we don’t even know what they are…………

There is scientific research that shows so much of the behavioural issues we are now seeing in the classroom, lack of attention span or concentration, amongst an array of other things, is directly related to poor nutrition.

Too much sugar….
Too much artifical flavours…..
Too many preservatives. ….
Too many trans fats…….
Too much packaged/processed food…….

I’m not implying this is the only factor in the rise of our behavioural issues within our young, as there are many contributing factors, but nutrition is definitely pretty high up there.

And don’t think I’m a saint , and my children are completely wholefood based, because I’m not, and my children do get the odd treat in the weekend, like crumpets or piklites every now and then ?

But as a whole, I have never bought a box of cereal for my children, and at age 8 1/2 and 6, they have no idea what nutra grain or cocoa pops are. And why should they?

Would we give our kids a bowl of sugar for breakfast?
Absolutely not!!
So why do we give them a bowl of cereal that is just a bowl of sugar in disguise?

As parents it’s up to us to make the right choices for our children. To educate them about healthy eating. So as adults they have the tools to navigate their own health and well being, AND that of your GRANDCHILDREN to come.

Too many clients I see with unhealthy eating habits, have inherited them from their parents and actually know no better.

And it can take a very very, long time to break down their thought processes and create positive, lasting change.

I won’t say it’s always easy, as children certainly have a mind of their own when it comes to food, but work within the things they might like, give them a couple of options, and better yet, get them to help you prepare it ?

You’ll find if you give them some options and get them to help in the preparation, they’ll be more likely to gain a sense of pride and ownership in the food they’ve created.

My son has always been easy. He’ll drink a smoothie every morning. It’ll have everything in it from,
Spinach
Kale
Spriulina powder
LSA
Letchin
Physillum husks
Banana
Blueberries
Kefir yogurt
Plain yogurt
Coconut water or whole milk
Protein powder
Coconut water

What an array of micro nutrients to be getting first thing in the morning, setting your body up for a successful day!!!!

My daughter on the other hand is hit and miss with everything ?

BUT, if you work with her, you will find her choosing things like,
eggs and vege sticks
Porridge with fruit
Plain yogurt and fruit
Homemade muesli and plain yogurt
Chia seed pudding with fresh fruit
Or a smoothie depending on what’s gone in it.
But never does she get the option of a bowl of sugar filled cereal, or white bread based products for breakfast.

So what changes can you make NOW, to start giving your children the tools to know how to make the right nutrition choices throughout their life?

How can you role model, through YOUR OWN choices, what is good healthy eating. ………………….
